19 of October 2009

This video isn’t unequivocally about who’s right as well as who’s wrong in this debate. It’s only an observation about a single aspect of a inlet of a argument.

  1. The analogy can be extended further. as others have mentioned there a crowds of theists each betting on different numbers. and they are waiting for the ball to stop to see who is right, but that ball shows no signs of slowing down and they are getting bored. so they begin to fight each other over who has made the right bet.

  2. It’s not a 50/50 bet… It’s 50/50 for the atheist (i guess), but the theist isn’t betting on red, the theist is betting on 17 or 13 or 28.

  4. Religious people are not betting on red, they are betting on “0″ + the ball landing in a proper orientation.
    Awesome video.

  6. Great analogy and video ! This is why fundies will not join environmental protect organizations or fight against any science that tries to find solutions to our problems, because they put all their chips on an unproven afterlife.

  16. Religion is sharing lifestyles and a mentality with a hint of hope for a better in the here and after just like in a casino.

So yeah, casino analogy is a sound argument.

I am going to use this argument in the future =)

  17. What brilliant little gem that analogy! The similarities are astonishing! You can even make them based on how certain themes elevate appeal of patrons while in the casinos/churches.

Not to mention the distribution of free alcohol while ”placing those bets” so to speak.

    Criminally Unsubscribed I tells ya!

    Cheers!

  19. Hmm they are not betting their sould, they are betting their life! The way they use their time on Earth. I see it this way as I dont believe there is such a thing as a soul.

  20. You can use the casino-metaphor in a different way: You can say that your religious friends bet their whole life on 23 red because, from their point of view, their salvation depends upon that they’ve chosen the right religion and the right denomination.

  22. Well done. Stay out of the casino – or church.

Maybe for your analogy you could have the gambler/believer walking around the casino playing the slots, occasionally hitting small payoffs (hallelujah!) before walking up to the roulette wheel.
