  1. The Calvinist ethic…poor people deserve to be poor and rich people deserve to be rich because God says it’s so…a belief strong in American culture.

  7. I’m not saying it’s a need to have god, but for some individuals that have a terrible up bringing or some crazy bizarre life religion keeps them from doing harm to themselves or others. Have you seen the movie Religious (bill maher movie) he makes a great point, Bill even stated he understands when a man is in prision for 30 years, or when a soldier is in cave fighting for his life, why the religion is needed for their situation. Or when a person doesn’t have a family and needs that support .

  8. It has done more harm than good. There is no harm in forcing people to face the truth and deal with problems and life in a reasonable human manner. Simply put there is no GOOD REASON to believe in some all-seeing being watching all of us at the same time. It’s an insult to our ability as human beings to behave morally, we just don’t NEED god to guide us. Why can’t we just not kill people because they are people and it’s just wrong. We don’t need god or the bible or whatever to tell us that!

  9. religion is good and can be very beneficial, it gives hope and faith and for some people it can make them a better person. On the other hand it can be a manipulative weapon that can bring out the worst in human kind. It can cause great wars, produce mass hatreds and created major tensions. The point being, it’s all by the hands of the persons intent and the way of portraying religion.

  15. This interview only scratches the surface.

These people are involved in one way or another in every major government worldwide.

They have backed some of the worst dictators and war criminals, they believe Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot were doing ‘God’s work’.

Don’t be too comfortable, they may have sway in your country’s politics as well.

  17. Do you even know if he’s religious?
And is it constitutional to be able to justify raping little girls? Not seeing it as crime because of the place you’re in?
If that’s constitutional then the president could do anything he wants to.

  18. I find it surprising that as a Jewish American, Jeff Sharlett, is concerned about a group of persons who share a religious view in which they claim to be “God’s chosen people” and who use their access to political power to advance an agenda without regard to the interests of other ethno-religious groups.

Isn’t that also the definition of the Jewish lobby?

And, isn’t it perfectly legal and constitutional?

    Comment by Sigolet — August 29, 2009 @ 8:25 am

  19. After reading the book, I wouldn’t be surprised in the least.

The infiltration of these fundamentalists into government, corporations and military is astounding.

There is hardly a major decision made that they don’t have control over. The Health Care issue is a prime example – these elected members have a greater loyalty than to their parties or the American people.

  20. Proves that Christians aren’t as pure and superior as they would want you to believe.
    Sickening.

  22. Not to be the bad guy here but, they were on to something.

    Comment by wolfmanjack1988 — August 29, 2009 @ 8:25 am

  23. I agree with your assessment of their objectives, and would add that they are now so deeply entrenched in key positions in government and the military to make this objective a reality.

“The Family” by Jeff Sharlet is required reading for anyone who wants to understand the depth of their involvement at home and abroad.

You will be shocked and frightened by their theology and how they have recruited politicians and business leaders to their message of power.

    Comment by hal2017 — August 29, 2009 @ 8:25 am

  24. Yeah, I’ve known all this for years. At the very core of Fundamentalist Christianity are groups like the Family.

These people want to take over America and make it a “Christian” version of Nazi Germany.

They are no different than Al Qaeda.
