  1. @TheCelticChimp A “Perfect God” is impossible. Why would something so perfect create things that are imperfect?

  2. Continued – If you look you’ll see that very few people use logic when it comes to beliefs. Logic and science do not have all the answers and there are so many questions that logic & science can never answer. We are a highly subjective species and look to emotions to understand our existence. People do the best they can and scrutinizing every little belief isn’t going to accomplish anything. Maybe you should be looking for questions instead of thinking you know the answers.

  3. I try to understand your perspective, but this video is a bit unnerving. You say, “People assume you are as ignorant as they are”? Since when do people think they are ignorant? The same thing could be said about you. I dislike this trend of regarding anyone who has an undesirable belief is ignorant. Do you actually believ you are the first to come up with these points about Jesus? The Romans were saying the same thing at the onset of the Christian sect. Continued

  4. Not many people know that Jesus had an identical twin brother who took his place after he was killed!

Thats complete nonsense. Religious sophistry knows no bounds. This was not a statement in isolation. There is a running theme of the end approaching. Jesus seemed to think he would be back within the lifetime of his followers. Some of them would still be alive to see him in his kingdom. Quick, heavily interpret that to pretend it is saying something else. The perfect word of God sure does need a lot human beings to tell us what he really meant.

  7. @TheAnubisDrake This is mostly just a rehashing, without any independent research, of what is posted on many Atheist websites. Message me with specific side-by-side citations, if you wish to prove the veracity of your claim that Jesus’ teachings are from Hindu and Afroasiatic texts. As for the Hindu Vedas, with which I am well acquainted (I wrote my graduate thesis on interfaith dialog), these are not at all like Jesus’ teachings. Again, exact quotations, please.

  8. @bornbranded29 ‘your ad hominem attacks’ Where did I make a personal attack? I only made comments about the flaws in you logic, I never made a comment about your character or looks.
‘The point of my post was to facilitate critical thought: generalizations about Christians and Atheists and their respective beliefs are not [socially, intellectually, etc.] productive.’ On this we can agree.

  9. @bornbranded29 ‘you did not address the premise’ I did. Jesus was not the only peace loving, helping man in that time.
Furthermore how is this moral or unconditionally loving?
‘But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them–bring them here and kill them in front of me’?
‘but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.’?
His supposed message was neither moral, nor unconditionally loving.

    Comment by thomaseshuis — September 22, 2011 @ 8:09 pm

  10. @TheCelticChimp That’s good, as that is not what he meant. It is a mystical (spiritual) abandonment. In the Gospels (NT), Jesus is said to have conquered the flesh, the world and hell (death). The Apostle Paul tells early Christians to keep their eyes set on the goal [of heaven], rather than on worldly things. Both also state that family, children, wives, husbands, are enjoined to one another by God and should not be separated, thus the objection to divorce by many churches.

  11. @TheCelticChimp I am serious: Jesus is unique. His culture stoned women for adultery, valued wealth, loved their neighbors and hated their enemies (it’s in the OT). Jesus protected an adultress, rejected wealth (“blessed are the poor”) and exhorted us to turn the other cheek and love our enemies, so that enemies might be brothers. And Luke 14 (oft cited by Atheists) is about transcending the world. Jesus also says that he has no mother or brothers, that whoever loves him are his relatives.

  12. First of all, in answering, you did not address the premise of my concluding question, which discusses the significance of the creation of such an unconditionally loving message, completely alien to Jesus’ culture. As such, your ad hominem attacks have not met generally accepted standards for a direct reply.

The point of my post was to facilitate critical thought: generalizations about Christians and Atheists and their respective beliefs are not [socially, intellectually, etc.] productive.

  13. One thing. The bible is for the most part symbolic. By the way, You suck.

  14. @N00b1n4T0R64 …the bible is very bad even for a work of fiction, hell, bad fiction is way better, you know?, like scientology!, that shit at least is hilarious…

We need good fiction, with dragons, orcs and dinosaurs with laz0rs + transformers and heavy metal.

    Comment by Darkja — September 22, 2011 @ 8:09 pm

  15. please, write a fiction novel, we need more fiction, like the bible.

  16. @bornbranded29

… I am not suggesting that Jesus actually meant his follower should literally hate their families but he did mean that they should abandon them. Imagine thinking that a preachment telling men to abandon their families is soo moral as to be beyond the uttering of a mortal.
It would be funny if it wasn’t so tragic.

  17. @bornbranded29

You are joking right? How could any ordinary man do this?
Are you seriously presenting this as an argument.
Jesus’ foolish, impractical and often immoral teachings are not beautiful.

    Any crackpot can say anything.

Luke 14:26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.”
Yes, so beautiful, so moral. How could any ordinary man say this?

    Oh by the way…

    Comment by TheCelticChimp — September 22, 2011 @ 8:09 pm

  18. @bornbranded29 ‘How could an ordinary man say/do this?’ Because he had compassion, and if he existed, he was not the only one.
Your assumption that only Jesus did or could do such things is flawed and rather weak.
Your further assumption that this proves the truth of his message or his divinity is a non sequitur.

    Comment by thomaseshuis — September 22, 2011 @ 8:09 pm

  19. You responded without answering my challenge, which was not to attack (as I know some Atheist do) but explain how someone who comes from a time as violent and primitive as Jesus’ says and does such beautiful things: saving an adultress woman condemned to stoning, urging us to love our enemies, that we may be brothers, becoming last (i.e., a servant) amongst humanity, which he says can make us first [in his heart]. Forget your cynicism about the teachings. How could an ordinary man say/do this?

  24. search here on youtube “jesus was a buddhist monk”. The Christians really like it when you point out that possibility to them….not. Kind of fun to do. ;-) It does make alot of sense, though.
