  1. it’s funny because you claim we’re outraged. i know some are, but i’m not. i’m just critiqueing. but your caps lock indicates outrage at me.

but i ain’t mad at ya

i’m not following logically here, maybe i’m the dummy.

so is there a “wrong” way they could’ve done this you would’ve disapproved of?

  2. It is an eloquent and fair video… Kind regards,

  3. AA said what I was going to say. Seriously, read the comments, here and elsewhere on the topic. Compare what some are saying and claiming about the event then actually watch the original video they are bothered about.

The young people did NOTHING to the people at that ritual magic ceremony. Nothing at all to the people there.

  4. “Are you seriously telling me that you think Laura is in the same category as a man who applauds a country that executes gay people?” – that’s beside the point. I’m trying to show that you agree there are situations where you’d agree to call someone ‘creature’, ergo one can call someone ‘creature’ …

  5. // I don’t understand how it’s okay to pick on religion from home, but it’s not okay after attending a church service. //

It’s very odd, isn’t it? Especially since most churches, including the one you attended, are open to non-believers (they would like to have converted you – they failed)..

But many of the people who have complained have done video or left comments that could be seen as much more “hurtful” than anything Laura did.

    Intriguing…

  6. No fail, Elaina. And I delete peoples’ deletion to save them any embarrassment, so don’t tell on yourself next time. ; )

  7. I don’t think too many would have a problem with that, as long as it wasn’t their former church you were doing it at.

  8. There is no single “the”icon. There are many. This has become one, simply by the attention given to it.

I agree it was probably just them being a bit bored and thinking it might be more entertaining than it was. But it has become much bigger than that now.

  9. Well, you must admit that “unfunny” is strictly a personal opinion and you and I can only speak for ourselves on that point.

It may well have been pointless, but now there is a point, thanks to the unending discussion of it! The foolishness of religious belief is once again a major topic, even if only in the context of how best to expose it.

It does not necessarily follow that if there is no “right” way that there then is no “wrong” way. There can be wrong ways. Especially for YOU.

  10. it was smug, juvie, unfunny, pointless. i can think of other scenarios in a synagogue or mosque with imposters being smug with a hidden camera, and i would still see it the same way: immature and discourteous

and if “there’s no right way” to attack religion, then anything goes. and you know someone will take it there eventually

  11. laura was quite nasty to her criticizers, and i don’t respect that.

    Comment by cherrydog9 — March 13, 2010 @ 6:01 am

  12. It’s been said that they disrupted the church service. They didn’t. That they targeted the people there to make mockery of individuals in attendance. They didn’t. That they “stole” from the church. They didn’t. That were laughing at the people and did so in a way as to make them feel bad. They didn’t.

Who made it up? You can go back through the comments and see who you find, but these things have been said here and elsewhere.

    Comment by AncientAtheist — March 13, 2010 @ 6:01 am

  13. who’s making up what?

    Comment by cherrydog9 — March 13, 2010 @ 6:01 am

  14. True, true mi amigo.

  15. Thank you….

isn’t this the second time you’ve had to tell me about a mistake in the description box?

    Comment by AncientAtheist — March 13, 2010 @ 6:01 am

  16. I’ve grown bored with people who insist that their methodology is the ONE valid methodology for dealing with religious topics. Different presentations speak to different people.

I am very disappointed with some of the atheists who are actually making up shit to back up their accusations. Some obviously didn’t pay attention to the original ‘offending’ video.

The notorious four did NOTHING to the people at that church. They were not discourteous to any one at the church. False accusations.

    Comment by macnutz — March 13, 2010 @ 6:01 am

  17. Indeed, no harm done. It was merely somewhat distasteful. Furthermore, it’s was, for me, amusing in direct proportion to it’s distastefulness; laughter is, after all a mediated fear response. I am not “outraged”. My, earnestly given, arguments were mostly an attempt to encourage empathy for SK, a former Catholic with Catholic family. While I was raised Lutheran, half my family is Catholic, so I understand his feeling to an extent. Remember, the title of the vid was: Stockholm Syndrome.

If it makes you a bad person, please never be good.

  19. I just think that the whole spectacle was rather passive-aggressive, childish, needless and un-entertaining. I mean if you’re an atheist, why the hell are you even at Church to begin with? Don’t they have something better to do with their time? And yes, as a de-converted Catholic, I find the whole event to be rather distasteful and immature.

  20. Those catholic basterds are lucky I wasn’t there, I would have pissed on that cracker as soon as I got it right in the middle of the church!

  21. @oojamaflipper No – it makes you amusing. Well done!!

  22. First lets hope this video dies and does not becomes the icon of YT atheists. It has nothing to do with Secularism, lacks rational and has no reason ! Hardly the flag I would want to stand under !
Second to suggest that the complainers made this video the issue it was it a little one sided
In part you can blame the hotheadedness of some involved and their minions of obsequious followers who could not take the criticism.
On their side I feel that it was just meant to entertain, nothing more

  23. i went to a wedding recently and when singin i changed the lyrics to “all things bright and beautiful, evolution made them aaaall!”

does that make me a bad person? ; )

  24. What happened? Oh yeah, there was a discussion going on before TAA, Gup and his sis exploded into attention. Well, they got some support from some of us, so its back to the discussion for me.
On to part two! : )
